New Desert Diamond Casino Opening in Arizona

Refund Management Services (www.RefundManagement.com), the number one choice for Canada’s biggest winners for U.S. gaming and casino tax refunds, weighs in on the opening of the Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Resort in Glendale, Arizona. Refund Management Services (RMS) also explains that non-U.S. residents gambling in the U.S could have 30% of their winnings withheld by the IRS.

Owned and operated by the Tohono O’odham Nation, the New Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Resort is located in Glendale, Arizona. The opening will be in two phases with the first phase (the casino) slated to open on December 20. When finished, it will be the largest casino gaming floor in the state, spanning 150,000 square feet. Visitors will have access to over 1,000 slots, a 1,000-seat bingo room, 50 table games, as well as a separate 25-table poker room. The casino will also have a hotel and spa. “Each year, close to one million Canadians visit Arizona. In addition to the Grand Canyon and other popular travel destination, Arizona is also home to approximately 40 Vegas-style casinos,” says Brooke Sacks, vice president of marketing and business development at Refund Management Services. “The new Desert Diamond Casino Resort is a welcomed addition to the state of Arizona. That being said, non-U.S. residents who visit the casino need to be aware that winnings over $1,200 are subject to a 30% withholding tax by the IRS.”

Sacks explains that casino winnings in the U.S. are considered income by the IRS, which is why they are subject to a 30% withholding tax. But those who live in a country that has signed a U.S. tax treaty— like Canada, for example— may be eligible for a refund.

“The Chartered Accountants at RMS are registered Certified acceptance agents and have almost 20 years of experience helping non-U.S. residents recoup some or all of the winnings held back by the IRS,” Sacks states. “Refund Management Services has successfully completed the most U.S. gaming tax refunds for Canadians and other non-U.S. residents and has never been refused an eligible refund.”
